Welcome to the World of Geography!
I will be correlating my blog posts, with ones required by my students, and maybe putting a few extra on here!
My name is Heather Fuller, and I'm the educational facilitator for this World Geography course. I like to call myself the "Innovative Educator," because my class is a Modern Global Studies course within the basis of W.Geo TEKS.
I attended UT Austin and majored in Radio-TV-Film, so my perspective in the classroom is extremely creative, heavy on media+visuals, and ultimately, a collaborative process. I've also attended many PBL (Project Based Learning) sessions, so my class is extremely rooted in those teaching techniques.
Harkness method is one of the learning techniques that stem from PBL. Harkness method is a way for students to have a student-led discussion about a variety of topics, maybe it's something I give them, maybe it's about current events, or over a literary piece relevant to our course.
Here are some superb examples of Harkness Method in action...
...eventually I will add some of our own examples from my course on the website!
The students are also supposed to complete a "5 Themes of Geography" activity on their blog post. So in lieu, of doing the actual assignment I will go down the list and give examples of what each theme is--Students please see YOUR paper for your specific requirements...
